Following a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] dodyskin about the [livejournal.com profile] su_herald, she suggested starting a little meme to give fandom contributors a heads up that could help both themselves and the Herald (formatting stolen from [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt):

Every time you post something in the fandom, leave a comment in the Herald that goes like this:

[link] (unformatted)
Title, Pairing or Characters, Rating

It might look like this:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/tkp/2435.html
Blood Types, Angel, R

And for graphics:

[link] (unformatted)
description

so:

http://www.livejournal.com/community/mango_icons/5074.html
28 Buffy icons [info]mangofandango

(And if you haven't friended -- or at least checked out -- the [livejournal.com profile] su_herald, er, why not? Icons! Buffyverse fic of all kinds! Check out the latest post. Makes those reports of "dying fandom" seem greatly exaggerated indeed.)

Oh! So you TELL [livejournal.com profile] su_herald that you want something listed? I didn't know that.

Um no. It used to be totally at the editors discretion - what they wanted to recommend, not a round up of everything from that day.

So I'm a tad confused.

Huh. Me too!

I'm pretty sure it's still going to be editor's dicretion, but this way at least you can point them do you and what you'd like to pimp!

I'd have to get clarification from [livejournal.com profile] dodyskin, but what I guessing is that you can post your link, but it will still be up to editor's discretion regarding space and content. And you can always email them at sunnydale_herald@yahoo.com if you have a ficathon or something you'd like to pimp! Don't feel bad, I was unaware of the entire thing until someone told me they kept seeing my name there and I said, "What's the herald?" Snerk.

LOL!

Ahhhh, that makes a lot of sense. If I ever write anything that I could consider worthy, I'll give it a go!

Fanks!

The big thing here is that it is a lot of work to get an organized recommendations page together any day; there are, currently, only two people working on [livejournal.com profile] su_herald and reviewing the whole fandom every day is... difficult. Just doing what I do- cruising my flist and several communities, including [livejournal.com profile] su_herald to make comprehensive recommendations and mini reviews at The S'cubie Board Reading Recommendations Section is sometimes overwhelming; I keep meaning to go back and catch up on things, as I had a nasty experience last night realizing I had not recommended a fic written for me on my birthday not because I didn't deem it worthy but because it was posted when I was overwhelmed with other stuff and I. Just. Forgot.

I heart the herald, too. I tried to give as many squees to the editors as I could (you know, without it looking like I was begging for pimpdom) because it's *hard* work.

Your S'cubie Board rocks, too. And I like it because it has detailed recs. So go you, too!!

When I started reading fic (about sixteen months ago! EEP!) the recs area at the S'cubie board was chaotic; not all of the recommendations had links of any kind, and no-one had gone through what links there were to make sure they were current; it was unmodded, and more like a scavenger hunt than a resource.

This spring there was a brief unpleasantness that ended up with a mod being selected- Rachael, our Science Goddess- and the whole area being redesigned. What's been most useful to me is having a separate WIP thread; other people rejoice over the inclusion of fic from the other fandoms the board covers (there are reviews and discussion of BtVS, AtS, Firefly, Lost, Veronica Mars, Alias, and Battlestar Galactica on other parts of the message board and web site) not to mention the articles and books threads.

Anyway; there is a mod to keep that straight, plus a lot of people contributing links, and it's all done one post at a time, which takes the pressure off; the Herald, which posts a digest with dozens of links, is a lot more work for its editors.

Julia, almost wordy enough to make you think I'm avoiding writing, but actually, it's laundry I'm trying to ignore.

Evil! Evil! Steal! Steal! I volunteered to be an editor for the Herald. Okay, now we know my insanity's not just for show...
