"Were you born this big a pain in the ass?" "What can I tell you, baby? I've always been bad." Favorite Moments: Punk Spike on the subway. Spike demonstrating to Buffy during the pool game that the Slayer always has to reach for her weapon, and then vamping out to shot her that he always has his. Spike tellin Buffy that she has a death wish. and the only thing between her and death at the fangs of a vamp is, "one good day." Spike arriving at Buffy's loaded for bear and his heartbreak when he sees her tears. I know this is an episode that a lot of people hated. There are several Spike camps, but one of the most vocal is the “We Want the Big Bad!” And steps toward redemption, having layers or pretty much having Spike say anything beyond, “Grr! Argh! Slayer – prepare to die!” are not what these folks are looking for. And this episode gives us an effete, poetry writing William followed by a sobbing heap of Spike as Buffy snits off, telling him that’s he’s beneath her. Then we’re slammed back to pissed-off, gun totin’ Spike, who turns into chest heaving, Buffy-hair-stroking Spike. See? Layers – he’s COMPLEX! I’m so glad that Karabair, Aeryn and I are pretty much at the same place about Spike. I can really see myself having too wine and getting all up in someone’s face over ensouled vampires, Spuffy love, Oedipal complexes and what makes the Big Bad bad. Death is your art. You make it with your hands day after day. That final gasp, that look of peace. And part of you is desperate to know: What's it like? Where does it lead you? And now you see, that's the secret. Not the punch you didn't throw or the kicks you didn't land. She really wanted it. Every Slayer has a death wish. Even you. Sooner or later, you're gonna want it. And the second — the second — that happens, you know I'll be there. I'll slip in, have myself a real good day.

Shameless!

Dude, have you watched "Touched" yet? I mean, have you? It always takes me an extra 20 minutes to watch that ep because I have rewind the S&B in the abandoned house scene at least 3 times. (No, not THAT Spike and Buffy in the abandoned house scene; the one where he tells her she's a helluva woman. Ahh. . .)

I don't know how I feel about "Fool for Love." I think it's role in the series is essential, but I got a little confused watching it b/c I couldn't figure out what version of the story Spike was actually telling her. Clearly he wasn't telling EVERYTHING in the flashbacks, but how much of it does she know? I'm gonna rewatch this as soon as I manage to borrow the DVDs and I'll have a more informed opinion.

And I know I've been over this before, but here's a VAMPIRE in love with a VAMPIRE SLAYER and giving her a hard time about HER death wish. And I love that final scene -- the head tilt. I dunno if that's the first time he does it, but it's the first time I remember it (there's another good head tilt in the "shirty" scene in "End of Days"). But anyhow, he tilts the head and suddenly he goes from hot, ripped big bad to "pet me now" puppy dog. I s'pose it's a little obvious as an actor's trick, but I'll take it.
