So I have been reading the Mark Watches recaps of Buffy and Angel and for most part it's the same super fun that is watching the show anew with a new person. I typically have to skip the comments, though, because of the random Xander hate (it's even worse than the vintage Xander hate I'm immune to) and because A LOT of these new viewers seem SUPER young and are hyper sensitive/triggered by anyone saying anything sexual to anyone ever.

However, after today's recap of "The Initiative," a new viewer commented on the fact that you can briefly see Spike's reflection in the glass in the Initiative holding cells. They went on to say, "I realized that was a technical error, because at first I thought he was supposed to be a ghost, and he's already undead, so it would just be silly if he were a ghost."

Ahahahahahahhaha. Indeed.

So now I'm sitting here with a goofy grin on my lips, shipping Spike/Willow, calling Jonah "my little mentholated pack of smokes" and thinking of the baby Buffies, "You think you know ... what's to come ... what you are. You haven't even begun."

Someone posted this on one of Mark Watches' reviews and I totally agree. I didn't know "The Initiative" already, gotta go and read.

I so agree with the above statement. So, so, so agree. One of the things I've noticed about the comments is a marked lack of understanding when something is a JOKE. For instance, Xander's quote from the Initiative: "Right now I don't have the technical skills to join the Swiss Army. And all those guys ask you to do is uncork a couple of sassy cabernets" caused one commenter to speculate on Xander (or the writers) lack of knowledge of Switzerland. IT WAS A JOKE. On what planet is 'sassy cabernets' NOT funny?

And any time Xander acknowledges the hotness of Buffy, Willow, Anya, any hot chick, it's an immediate comment flurry of "Ewww, gross, do not want!" yet they feel free post pics of him the speedo because reverse gender objectification is OK! I have issues, let me show them, haha.

I KNOW!!! It's annoying how they seem to take everything so seriously.

My new pet peeve with the comments is the way S4 Xander is such an angel that dropped from heaven. Like High School Xander was some kind of devil with no good qualities at all.

I've never gotten the Xander hate. Xander indifference? Sure. Xander I-don't-think-he's-hot-ness? Sure. But...HATE? It's like hating Willow and Buffy's soul!

I LOVE reading the reactions because they're all falling so hard for this show (season 4 at this point) and their little hearts are breaking and I'm like..gah. You haven't even seen "The Body" or "The Gift" or "Chosen" yet. So. Much. Pain.

Reading his posts has made me remeber so much I'd forgotten and has rekindled my love all over again.

I don't bother with the comments either.
