Just a note that I'm doing the "Smash" recaps at stoney321's website Hey Don't Judge Me. I just posted the recap for 1.3 "Enter Mr. DiMaggio," if any of y'all are as big a Broadway geek as I am!
The music is fantastic -- I want to see this fake musical! I adore Debra Messing & Jack Davenport, I worry about how they're going to sustain the premise the entire run, and it can be a little repetitive at this point. And then someone sings and I'm happy again. The last ep was not the best. More about Broadway and the writing/workshop process, less about the relationship issues with the characters, IMO.
I'm loving the musical numbers, but the only characters I can stand are Tom, Dev and Eileen. I was pretty incensed by the romanticized infidelity, but at least she realizes she needs back up to keep her on the straight and narrow.
I loved how Tom sat up straighter when he was told he was on an actual date. I was so happy for him until the bombshell got dropped and ruined everything, date included apparently.
Kate needs to recognize that someone who fully supports a creative spouse, with the bad hours and low pay and everything that goes with it, is worth their weight in gold.
I love Tom and Eileen, but I was a little put off by Dev's proprietary actions in front of Derek since Karen has been handling herself so well in that situation.
I loved that he sat up straighter, too! The musical numbers are great. Marc Shaiman is composing, so that certainly explains it.
Well, she has and she hasn't. I think Dev is still smarting from her blowing off his important business lunch to rehearse with this guy. And yes, she had to stay if she wanted the part but leaving Dev hanging was not cool.
