You know the one: go to wikipedia, check out the "This year in film" lists, and pick one favourite for each year since you were born. (I chose the ones that were my favorites of that year at the time, or at least by 1980 (I'm not gonna lie and say I was all about "The Big Chill" in 1983. What 13 year-old cared about aging Boomers? I was far more into Rob Lowe and Matt Dillon in "The Outsiders." It wasn't until 1983 that I can remember seeing more than one contemporary movie a year, though.)
Sometimes the choices were obvious (I was honest) and sometimes they were weird.
- Little Big Man
- The Last Picture Show
- Cabaret
- The Exorcist
- Blazing Saddles
- Jaws
- The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane
- Star Wars
- Halloween
- The Warriors
- Empire Strikes Back
- Mommie Dearest
- Blade Runner
- The Outsiders
- Top Secret!
- The Color Purple
- Stand By Me
- Raising Arizona
- Dangerous Liaisons*
- When Harry Met Sally
- Paris Is Burning
- The Silence of the Lambs
- A League of Their Own
- The Age of Innocence
- Pulp Fiction
- Tie: Sense and Sensibility and Clueless
- Scream
- Boogie Nights
- Bulworth
- Fight Club
- Almost Famous
- Tie: Y tu mamá también and LoTR
- Far From Heaven
- A Mighty Wind
- Mean Girls
- Brokeback Mountain
- Pan's Labyrinth
- Tie: Gone Baby Gone and Superbad
- Iron Man
- A Single Man (honorable mention to Brad Pitt in "Inglourious Basterds")
- The King's Speech
*One of my favorite quotes is from "Friends" when Ross quizzes Joey & Chandler: "What does Rachel say is favorite movie?" Joey & Chandler: "Dangerous Liaisons!" Ross: "What is Rachel's ACTUAL favorite movie?" Joey & Chandler: "Weekend at Bernies!" I was a huge corset-film fan in my teens and 20s...DL WAS my fave, hee.
Still snowed in and Caza's off work again tomorrow!

Date: 2011-02-03 12:48 am (UTC)From:Though YAY for the Outsiders, though I have to say watching it aged 13 and watching it aged 16 had a big difference to how I viewed it - there was a lot more laughing at age 16 at certain parts.

Date: 2011-02-03 01:01 am (UTC)From:I re-watched "The Outsiders" at 30 and was horrified. What is Tom Cruise DOING? How did Patrick Swayze ever get "Dirty Dancing"? Rob Lowe really isn't bad, though. And Diane Lane is pretty. Ah, but I loved the book!

I'm really glad that I watched them, because fantastic movies, but my god they could have had at least one musical number and a picture of a puppy to end on.

He's no Nick Lachey.
