...and they keep pulling me back in. So I gave a friend (who's always been very supportive of my writing) my website address because he wanted to see what I've been working on lately. Gulp. Okay, first of all, he's never watched anything from the Buffy 'verse and I tried to explain that he wouldn't get it. He insisted, and I'm never one to turn down fb, so I acquiesed. He's a gay man, so I figured some of the slash might intrigue.

He thought my little vignette Hair Like Chinese Silk was charming, but basically said, "Sue, why are you wasting your time with this? We've been telling you for years that you have the ability to make this a career, and you're never going to do that sitting around at 30 (I'm 33, so that was nice) writing stories about monsters." (Seemed to work okay for Joss...) So basically his thought process was "all this effort - nothing to show for it." Hey, I resent that - I've had squees aplenty!

It just kind of pulled me out of the B-verse and back into RL, which isn't always of the good. I've also been exploring aspects of my (former) RL, writing up a fic for [livejournal.com profile] nashmaveric . She wanted gay cowboys, so I dug my George Strait box set out and I've been stalking members of the IGRA (International Gay Rodeo Association) for tips. My first human AU, Angel/Xander will be roping its way toward you soon. So, country roads are taking me home, but things are not quite as I remember - hee! Please join me as I waste my time. Sorry, that'll be burnin' my ass for the rest of the night.

OK, completely out of the SNIFF loop here, but I was catching up on your plans to take over the RL publishing world (you know you're part of my morning routine, right?) and I was reminded of an article I read a few months ago in the Boston Globe. Apparently there's a new line of romance books targeted at the gay male audience but (surprise surprise) also bought by women. I'm not sure how *ahem* explicit they get, probably not very much, but they gave a small excerpt in the Globe (I do love my extremely liberal newspaper) and it seemed not bodice-ripping romantic, but kind of oblique, notice-the-details sort of thing. I guess if I had to compare that small paragraph to anyone in fandom it would be witling.

So all this is leading up to saying that while I really hope you don't abandon all of us here, there just might be an emerging market for people in this fandom who want to start actually being paid for their labors of love. The author profiled in the Globe was of course a gay man, but you know, the publishing house *should* take note of the fact that they do know, from survey data, that women are buying these books, and why not have women write them too?

Gay cowboys, my god. You are so funny, can't wait to see it. But what about SMCD????

Yeah, anelith's cool. We're good. I have been at church. It was "Roundup Sunday" (see how even the Baptist world is cooperating with my gay cowboy obsession?) so I have had fried chicken made by Christian women and am considering a nap...

Gay male romance novels...actually never thought of that...it's an idea!!! :::off to google:::
And I will never abandon! I will go down on this 'ship! (I so wish I had that icon) Thanks for all of your wonderful fb & comments.
I can't take credit for the gay cowboy idea, that's all nashmaveric. I just happened to jump on it. I won't neglect SMCD - it pretty much writes itself now that I've gotten over my smut fear. And S.N.I.F.F. are people I think are terribly funny.
