#5 Band Candy (Season 3) Favorite Moments: Joyce asking Giles why he’s called Ripper and his, “Wouldn’t you like to know?” answer. Giles and Joyce getting busy on the hood of the police car. Snyder telling Buffy, “Whoa, Summers, you drive like a spaz!” Tony Head’s real accent. Giles punching the air when Buffy decks Ethan. I know exactly why I love this episode: Giles, Giles, Giles! From the moment he turns around from the fireplace to light a cigarette as Buffy leaves to the moment he tries to body slam Larconis, he’s hot, hot, hot. . This episode could have had no Buffy, no demons – just Giles and Joyce lying on the floor of Giles’ flat, listening to Cream and I would have been happy. But, we get to have more Mayor, too – that line in as he prepares to watch a sacrifice of babies to a hideous snake demon and calls his assistant to complain about the state of the sewers is his best until he sends his vampire army out to kill innocent kids on “Graduation Day” and says, “And boys? Let’s watch the swearing.” The part of this episode I could watch over and over, however, is Giles at the hospital interrogating nurses, wearing black eyeliner and sounding exactly like Spike. I know James Marster’s patterned Spike’s accent after Tony Head’s real one, but to hear Giles say, “Hold on. Oooo, I know this!” in Spike’s exact inflection is wiggy and dead sexy.
