I was working on plans for Jonah's second birthday next month (nothing big this year: Curious George theme, dinner at our house, family and a few friends who have kids) when I stumbled across a parenting blog with a question about how to handle a six-year-old child handing out birthday invitations she had created herself and her mother not finding out about the party until she was surprised by RVSP calls (I'd go ahead with the party to celebrate any six-year-old who already grasped the complexity of répondez, s'il vous plaît.)
But what made me quirk a brow was a commenter who repeatedly responded to replies of "Why aren't I already planning the party myself?" with "Because some people don't celebrate yearly birthdays. Birthday parties are a fairly new thing!"
( Hey that Wings song is at least 30 years old! )
( POLL! )
