Jesus. I loved this so much. It was really intense, and a little sad, and super funny. And the characterizations were so spot on. I love your Giles being all knowledgeable and regretful and distanced and alone, and Xander being all . . . not-knowledgeable and regretful and undistanced but still alone.
The "I had sex with Anya" bit was really amazing. It was *very* Xander, something I could see him saying, even in a show that was never going for a Giles/Xander angle. And the "what have we walked in on" moment with Oz's answer was PERFECT. I always forget how much I love Oz; it's cool that I don't need the show to remind me. I can read excellent fanfic!
I love Giles describing their perception of him as "mesozoic", and I love him finding Xander's inner librarian secretly pleasing.
And how much do I love the end, with all that is there unspoken. I especially loved the insight about Xander wishing he was the one to choose. I never noticed that about him, but I think it's true. Well, Cordy might've been a little more even, initial desire-wise, but Cordy always *acted* like she was the one choosing him, and of *course* Xander would want her back because she was *Cordy*. Even with the fluking, it was Willow who had always wanted Xander, although Xander wanted her back in those moments, finally. It's an interesting way to present the idea of Xander being gay or bi.
Thanks for this fic! It is awesome, and has made me thinky!
