You know, G/X was never a 'ship I was all that interested in, and definitely nothing I ever had an "Aha!" moment about in canon. But when my Buffy re-interest surfaced, it was the main pairing I read, and I've really come around to it (I've also developed a massive Giles love, as opposed to the ordinary love I had before.)
The Dead thing is borrowed from real life. When I was in college in the early 90s, 60s/70s nostalgia was HUGE. One of my friends and I had gone to visit another friend at OU, and when we knocked on his apartment door we could hear the Dead blaring. When our knock went unanswered, I told my friend uberaeryn that we should wait until the song was over. She said, "It's the Dead! We could be here for days!" Hee.
