2 Cool 4 Skool

No class today - it's library day! And if you think I'm actually going to the library, well, we've obviously just met. Allow me to paraphrase this week's Heroes: "The library? Haven't they heard of the Internet?"

Icon meme
Comment on this post. I'll choose seven userpics from your profile and you'll reply here (or you know, your own journal, whichever), explaining what they mean and why you're using them. You can totally answer in comments if you don't wanna post.

[livejournal.com profile] zandra_x asked about these:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket by [livejournal.com profile] adis723
I needed a non-fandom default icon. I keep [livejournal.com profile] adis723 on a hamster wheel in Texas expressly to make icons and conjugate obscure Spanish verbs for me and she and I discussed options. Going with a diamond was weird since I chose the name not for jewelry but for a) the Floyd song and b) the Dolly Parton "It's hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world," quote. Adis found this pic that combined both diamonds and lipgloss and it was ON.

This is the oldest icon I have - I've had it almost as long as I've had a journal. I found it on a now defunct website and it reminds me of a long-ago "Buffy" ramble I had with [livejournal.com profile] uberaeryn when I had just started watching BtVS. She was telling me about the Kingman's Bluff scene and literally came to tears. It reminds me of falling in love with the Buffyverse.

Adis and I were geeking over our love for Tara in "Older and Far Away" and I said, "Her scenes with Spike are just so sassy! She's all, 'Well, slap my ass and call me Glinda!' So, of course, fic Spike did." We giggled and I begged for an icon. A computer blow-up and year-long absence from fandom later, Adis complied.

This icon has no story - I just thought it was pretty. Since I tend to comment on SPN stuff now and had Dean and Impala icons, I needed Jared and/or Sam ones. It took me a while to find one that didn't do that "the bluest eye" thing to his hazel eyes, and I thought this one was gorgeous.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket by [livejournal.com profile] violethamster
I love this icon so. I love my home state, I love musicals and [livejournal.com profile] violethamster took some pic spam I'd posted of [livejournal.com profile] elcazavampiros and me and blended our faces in as Curly and Laurie. O what a beautiful mornin', indeed.

One of my favorite Nick Brendon photo shoots. Not even for the wet shirt he's rocking in it, I just really love this expression. This is also the icon I used for my massive I Love Xander post, and it always makes me remember my first and forever fandom love.

I want to be Lorelai Gilmore and/or Lauren Graham when I grow up. The fact that I am already older than Lorelai Gilmore and only...checks imdb...three years younger than Lauren Graham is neither here nor there. The fact that Lauren Graham/Jared Padalecki is my het OTP is no small thing, either.

God bless the DVR. Considering all of the papers I'm required to write this semester, my TV consumption feels somewhat excessive.

How I Met Your Mother I would watch this show for Jason Segel (Freaks and Geeks) alone. Hello? Ultra-tall, Jewish *and* he loves show tunes and classic rock? Sign me up. Plus it's shockingly hilarious at times. Add in Doogie, Willow and slap bets - I'm there.

Heroes I watched all of Season One in two days over the summer. All the same accolades everyone else gives it - yes. Plus Caza and I get to argue because his favorite character (Peter) gets on my nerves (Gilmore Girls angst) and my favorite character (Claire) bugs him. And Mohinder and Niki are hot. Trek nostalgia! And NONE of the kids annoy me. Plus - Mr. Muggles!

Weeds This is the funniest show that no one wants to pay for Showtime to watch. I almost canceled Showtime after QaF went off the air, and then this sucked me in. I've loved Mary Louise Parker since the Whistlestop and this is about pot! And porn! And cornbread pot! And...hot underage guys I feel skeevy for perving on! Plus the best line I've heard all season: "That boy's gayer than a handbag full of rainbows."

Reaper I loved the pilot, but subsequent episodes have made me laugh but not made me care about the plot. The monster of the week thing feels like same monster, different week to me. I could be MoW'd out after BtVS and SPN, but again, it makes me laugh. And Ray Wise! Hi, you!

Bones David Boreanaz is hot. I thought he was hot as Angel, but I never knew he could be the HOTTEST in JC Penney suits with a big-ass belt buckle and funny socks. This is the only "who dunnit" type of show I've ever watched, and since they don't make me watch the courtroom part (often) I'm happy. Plus the squints. And Brennan makes me smile. And pony-parties!

House I won't say much other than I'm surprised at how much I like this season's structure. I wasn't sure I would. I love every single main character on this show. But I love Wilson most.

Mad Men Caza watched this from the beginning, but I some how missed that whole "AMC Original Programming" thing and couldn't find it. I caught up a couple of episodes back and now wish I was a real writer so I could, like, really write for this.

Smallville Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Allison Mack and Erica Durance are very, very pretty. Plus I like all the primary colors jokes.

Supernatural I like folklore. I love classic rock (from back when it was "rock.") I love that freakin' car even though I turn my nose up at car culture. I love the whole fractured family dynamic. Clowns do kill. I think rock salt is awesome - it makes ice cream *and* stops demons. I love being able to call [livejournal.com profile] adis723 after every episode and parse the amusing, the banal and the sublime. I love that, because of geographical locations, we can say, "Full on pyscho, or sumthin'?" exactly like Jared Padalecki. And those two guys are kinda hot. Mumble. Mumble.

I want to like "Pushing Daisies" (hello, pie! And Kristin Chenoweth, native Oklahoman and friend of the journal) but the quirkiness borders on slightly too quirky for me. I'm still giving it a chance. I gave up on "Bionic Woman" when I realized I was watching Max chew his tail rather than the show. The Max Ratings, I call them - when you'd rather watch a weinerdog sniff his own ass than what's on the television. I eagerly await the return of "Battlestar Galatica," but I've given up on "Lost."

And then "The Daily Show" every night. And in between, I memorize Spanish verb tenses and try to write non-vitriolic papers on antisemitism in "The Prioress' Tale." And exercise. And spend the hours required to get hair this effortlessly gleaming. And look for monkey pajamas on ebay. And go to all of those cocktail parties I'm required to attend as Mrs. Dean of Humanities, with my ever-present cigarette and bouffant. Oh, wait, that's Mad Men. Caza only requires me to listen to all of the "You should have been in here in the 70s when things were all key parties and Manhattans!" gossip he gets from the world's oldest living secretary.

And call [livejournal.com profile] adis723 and/or [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777 every night to talk about everything we did all day. *ends on Buffy nostalgia*

I am so with you on Bionic Woman. That. I would much rather watch Max be doggy-ish than that show.

Reaper has not grabbed me, yet. The premise is good and I haven't given up, but if they don't start pulling out something genuinely cool and interesting, well. Missy Peregrym dating Rothelisberger (Steelers QB) is not enough to maintain my attendence.

I want Pushing Daisy's to be awesome. I have the same fear -- too cutsey -- but I'm going to continue trusting Brian Fuller to wow me, because he usually does, so no giving up yet. Also, Jim Dale is fantastic. And Glinda -- I mean, Kristin Chenoweth, who I did not realize was Glinda until she started singing and now I can't think of her as anything but Glinda!

Gah.

Hihi!

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I really wanted to like "Bionic Woman." I remember liking the original show, but the only thing I remember is an ep where Lindsey Wagner had to infiltrate some kind of Miss America pageant and she sang "Feelings." Heh. Oh, and I had the doll until my mom hid it because the clicking ear thing got on her nerves. But even Katee Sackhoff couldn't suck me into this one.

Missy Peregrym dating Rothelisberger (Steelers QB) is not enough to maintain my attendence. I read that sentence, but I know not what it means! It does amuse me (the whole Work Bench thing alone makes me giggle) but yeah, I'm waiting to be amazed.

She *is* Glinda! For always and forever. I did enjoy her singing but the first half of the pilot felt like that Crash Test Dummies video to "Mmmm Mmmm" - remember that? But I'm still hanging in.

Hi, cutie!
ext_1720: two kittens with a heart between them (Default)

[identity profile] ladycat777.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee -- Missy is the chick who plays Andi (I. Hate. That. Name. HATEHATEHATE. Yes, I was called that a lot, at school) on Reaper :)

I watched Bionic Woman with my mom. We both agreed that uneasy ambiguity over who is good and who is bad is good, but what made the original work is that it was cheesy. I mean, they had freaking sound-affects that whirred into life when her bionic implants were used.

Yes, thirty years of special effect advances can make a big difference, but I think the cheesy joy is very much lacking in that show. It'd be better for it.

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You are so not an Andi. I could see Drea, but you're so much not an Andi.

We both agreed that uneasy ambiguity over who is good and who is bad is good, but what made the original work is that it was cheesy. Excellent point. I like that BSG redeemed the original cheesiness of the show, but I think that works for "in space!" shows. I don't know if I can do robo-girl w/o some cheese. And the actress playing Jaime just didn't click for me.
ext_1720: two kittens with a heart between them (Default)

[identity profile] ladycat777.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
but I think that works for "in space!" shows.

Yeah, or even shows set in... other planets, other worlds. If it's on Earth, around now, then you've got to have some level of laughing-at-yourself. If you don't, it doesn't work.

And hell, even BSG has that, to an extent. Not a lot, but it's there.

Whoever's playing Jaime is horrible. I mean, pouty-lips are nice, but the ability to make me give a damn about this person is better.

I actually was a Drea for a while, but not Andi. Ever. There were at least three Andrea's in class with me. I was ANdrea, like Anne with drea attached, one was Andi, and the other was AHNdrea, like if you're pretentious and french.

We hated each other because we were all different (I was the bookish one, Andi was smart and athletic, Ahhhhhndrea was the snobbiest jap you ever did see) and we all got called each other's names which drove us *wild*.

I want to be Lorelai Gilmore and/or Lauren Graham when I grow up YES. *nods* me too. And Jared/Lauren? whew. that's nice.

your icons are love. this meme has been a lot of fun to watch, as it pops up on the flist. everyone's stories are so neat.

Mad Men - Oh man. I love that show because i hate it. I love that everyone on it is skeezy and/or creepy, and yet also fully fleshed out. and SPN - Yes, everything you said. TV is good stuff right now. :)

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I do want to be her! *claps hands and believes* There's sadly very little Jared/Lauren fic, but [livejournal.com profile] femmenerd wrote a fantastic one here if you're interested.

This is a fun meme! I love icons. I was going to let my paid account expire here on LJ, but I just couldn't make it with 6 icons. I gave them $5 for a couple more months. :)

I love to hate Mad Men, too! Oh, VK, I love to hate you and want to coddle you. And SPN = love. I saw you had done the icon meme, and that you made that particular icon. Is it a fandom or a stock photo?
laisserais: kiss (spn - J2 - together)

[personal profile] laisserais 2007-10-16 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks for the rec!

i'm not sure which icon you meant, but almost all of my SPN/J2 ones were made by [livejournal.com profile] apreludetoanend who, i believe, caps all the stuff herself. and they're all up for grabs, if you'd like to take a peek. she makes real pretty things. :)

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I was vague! Your tie & vest icon I thought was made by you?
laisserais: kiss (Default)

[personal profile] laisserais 2007-10-16 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
*G* oh! yeah, that's um. actually a picture of me. shhh. i took it on my camera phone. i was tired of being knusperklakes and wondered if i'd feel like my default represented me more if it was me. is that weird?

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's you? It's awesome! I thought it was HP when I first glanced at it, and then realized the colors were different. That's astonishingly good for a camera phone, even with photoshop. People have asked if this icon is me, and I'm flattered that they think my skin is that flawless (even with photoshop.)
laisserais: kiss (Default)

[personal profile] laisserais 2007-10-16 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks! yeah, the camera works pretty well. i guess it does look a little HP-ish.

It's funny, because when i look at your icon, i do think of you, so it's kinda like it is you, in a way. You have shiny lips! :)

[identity profile] electricalgwen.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely felt the HP vibe. It's funny, I do think of it as you (though I didn't know it was), and during this meme I was actually meaning to ask if you ever wore a tie like it... except somehow I got sidetracked, and so, yeah, clearly you do. *g*

And yes, I think of those as "Sue's lips." Also, I remember you telling me you'd imagined I looked a bit like River, because of the icons.
laisserais: kiss (Default)

[personal profile] laisserais 2007-10-16 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. Only sometimes do i wear a tie. it's for when i'm feeling sassy. *g* but i do enjoy the argyle sweater vests far more than is good for me.

yeah, sometimes i wonder if i'm the only one who imagines that people look like their icons. i totally make up images of what my flist looks like. :)

[identity profile] electricalgwen.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. I even know what [livejournal.com profile] cordelianne looks like (thanks to Sue, oddly enough *g*) but her image-in-my-head still looks a lot like the happy-Buffy avatar she uses on MSN.
laisserais: kiss (firefly - river)

[personal profile] laisserais 2007-10-16 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. That's funny, because i was going to say: even though i know what you look like, you still look like river to me. well, a cross between river and gwen.

(sorry, sue. i've had a bad habit of chatting in other folks' journals lately *g*)

[identity profile] electricalgwen.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
hey cool! new icon for you? or have I just not noticed before?
laisserais: kiss (firefly - river)

[personal profile] laisserais 2007-10-16 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
:) nope, it's not new. i just don't use it nearly enough.

[identity profile] electricalgwen.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I started it this time. Sorry, Sue!

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Chat away - I'm in total support of threading. And yes, people *do* look like their icons. There are three people I've actually met in fandom who *still* look like smoking Spike to me.

[identity profile] spikendru.livejournal.com 2007-10-17 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! I had absolutely NO idea the tie/sweater vest was you! Here, I thought it was Neville Longbottom!
laisserais: kiss (Default)

[personal profile] laisserais 2007-10-18 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Um, I have no idea who Neville Longbottom is. Is he the guy in your icon? Yeah, I'm a little bit of a sartorial geek. I'm thinking I should read HP, if they all share my fashion sense. :)

[identity profile] spikendru.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yis! That is Neville in my icon - and he definitely shares your fashion sense, and also is excellent with plants and growing things (and is probably my favorite HP character).

I enjoyed the books, and I frequently read HP genfic, but my heart still belongs to BtVS/AtS. If you want to dip a toe in, [livejournal.com profile] dorrie6 wrote a lovely Neville & Willow crossover fic for the Buffyverse Crossover ficathon, called The Past and Pending.

This *is* such a fun meme. I could ramble about icons all day, despite the fact that I can't make them. And Andy icon! Oklahoma represent!

Here are seven of your icons if you wanna play - you can just comment your answers if you don't wanna do the post.

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! I had a hard time finding icons for "the other guy." I seem to know tons of "Sam girls" but the icon posts appear to be Dean lovin'. I think it's cause it's hard to frame a 6'4" guy in Sam's case.

Thanks! I'm really happy with my default - big poofy lips never go out of style.

I loooove the courtroom part of Bones! Basically, because the courtroom part usually includes Caroline Julian and I adore her to pieces. I want her to become a regular and have there be even more courtroom stuff. Then, I want to bring back Wong Foo's Sid and have him hook up with her.

And I love the icon comments. Do me!
