Unsung Heroes Appreciation

Before we get to the people that I think kick ass, did you hear that I was IN PAIN? Yes - let's begin with talking about me. Thursday night, I...threw my back out? Pinched a nerve? All I know is that I was looking up vids of Brad Pitt for no particular Stoney-inspired reason, and I bent over to scratch my foot and something twanged when it should have twigged. I shuffled into the house, kept Caza up until 4:00 a.m., literally had to crawl to the bathroom - twice - made Caza run to the all-night Wal-Mart for a heating pad and generally moaned from the vicinity of the couch all weekend.

Which means nothing I meant to do - fic re-writes and posting, letters mailing, green eggs and ham - got done this weekend. And the last I looked? My flist was at skip=340. Thank you so much to [livejournal.com profile] sweptawaybayou for covering the Herald for me this weekend. You rock!

Birthdays I missed: [livejournal.com profile] tx_cronopio, [livejournal.com profile] anelith, [livejournal.com profile] killerweasel, [livejournal.com profile] kelleah - *throws confetti* *shoots Silly String* Hope you all had a great day!

And now for the Heroes. Thanks again, [livejournal.com profile] southernbangel, for a great idea.

The Reccers - These are the people who make doing the [livejournal.com profile] su_herald so much easier. They link to fic, meta, off-site points of interests and find and spotlight new writers. Lots of people rec, and god bless 'em for it, but [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 is a fantastic source for finding new Buffyverse writers, [livejournal.com profile] makd posts regular lengthy and informative lists and [livejournal.com profile] lunabee34 recs on her own as well as maintaining [livejournal.com profile] club_joss for detailed rec purposes. You all rock.

[livejournal.com profile] makd
[livejournal.com profile] lunabee34
[livejournal.com profile] brandil
[livejournal.com profile] moosesal
[livejournal.com profile] stretfordditto
[livejournal.com profile] viciouswishes
[livejournal.com profile] dodyskin
[livejournal.com profile] zandra_x
[livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves
[livejournal.com profile] julia_here

The Mods - I'm a member of few communities/lists, but I can't say enough about the work that goes into maintaining active sites. You guys amaze me.
[livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan and [livejournal.com profile] yourlibrarian - for [livejournal.com profile] buffyversetop5
[livejournal.com profile] darkhavens - for [livejournal.com profile] bloodclaim
[livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves - for Octaves of the Heart and Writer Con Archive
[livejournal.com profile] entrenous88 and [livejournal.com profile] viciouswishes - for [livejournal.com profile] bones_theseries
[livejournal.com profile] mara_sho for Moments Lost, which includes the Xander-centric "I Need a Parrot" archive and the White Knight Awards
[livejournal.com profile] spuzz - without Spuzz, there is no [livejournal.com profile] su_herald

The Vidders - I love fan vids. These are a few of my favorite creators.
[livejournal.com profile] sisabet
[livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett
[livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup
[livejournal.com profile] nicole_anell

The Funny Girls - I so much would rather laugh than cry. These are a few people I can always count on for funny fic, amusing meta, creations or observations or just the occasional WTF? comment in my journal.
[livejournal.com profile] dovil
[livejournal.com profile] stoney321
[livejournal.com profile] tkp
[livejournal.com profile] dodyskin
[livejournal.com profile] mpoetess
[livejournal.com profile] vampirefever
[livejournal.com profile] paynbow
[livejournal.com profile] nicole_anell
[livejournal.com profile] cherusha - totally different fandom, but she cracks my ass up.

The Writers Of Everything - I know I'm massively missing people on this list, but these are a few writers who write so many disparate pairings, genres and styles that I never know if I'm going to click on a fic link that will lead me to introspective, thinky Connor character study, totally hot Faith/Buffy porn, a Wesley that sounds more Wesley than canon, two dudes kissin' or a Harmony piece so funny there's screen spewing.
[livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan
[livejournal.com profile] karabair
[livejournal.com profile] entrenous88
[livejournal.com profile] glossing
[livejournal.com profile] spikendru
[livejournal.com profile] stoney321

The Joy Makers - these are just a few of the journals I can always count on to be low on the emo and high on the sunshine shooting out of my butt. As I'm sure they intended.
[livejournal.com profile] tinpanalley
[livejournal.com profile] southernbangel
[livejournal.com profile] ely_jan
[livejournal.com profile] bdbdb
[livejournal.com profile] cordelianne
[livejournal.com profile] sweptawaybayou
[livejournal.com profile] lostakasha
[livejournal.com profile] up_your_peach
[livejournal.com profile] julia_here
[livejournal.com profile] tesla321
[livejournal.com profile] elcazavampiros - what? It's kind of cool to read him online, makes him seem like an entirely different person. If you're thinkin' you want a stranger, there's one comin' home...(and thank you to both of you who laughed at that George Strait shout-out.)

The Thinkers - Whether it's fandom meta, meaty rant or RL "did you know?" - these writers cause me to learn something new or come to look at something in an entirely different way. They're like, good with words and stuff.
[livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs
[livejournal.com profile] tkp
[livejournal.com profile] a2zmom
[livejournal.com profile] romanyg
[livejournal.com profile] janedavitt
[livejournal.com profile] peasant_
[livejournal.com profile] smashsc
[livejournal.com profile] yin_again
[livejournal.com profile] kita0610

The Iconers/Graphic Makers - I'm not a big visual arts person - despite that overwhelming icon love. These are few that continue to amaze me with their iconage, screen cap sharing and other "Wow...she did that with a computer? Fancy!" abilities.
[livejournal.com profile] _tayler
[livejournal.com profile] kornpeep
[livejournal.com profile] scarymime
[livejournal.com profile] crackers4jenn
[livejournal.com profile] killerweasel
[livejournal.com profile] velvet_virago

The Faithful Readers / Givers Of Feedback - Some of these people are writers, some are betas, some are just here for the fic and the fun - but these are names I often see leaving thoughtful responses to fic on any given day as I lurk around fandom. And really, how many S/X writers owe their continued improvement to [livejournal.com profile] tabaqui encouragement or [livejournal.com profile] kitty_poker1 beta efforts? There should be a sash and a tiara, or something...
[livejournal.com profile] anelith
[livejournal.com profile] ponders_life
[livejournal.com profile] tx_cronopio
[livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan
[livejournal.com profile] yourlibrarian
[livejournal.com profile] kitty_poker1
[livejournal.com profile] tabaqui

The Writers Who Made Me Want to Write - These are either the first writers I read in fandom and thought, "Holy hell...that's 'fanfic'?" or who were coming into fandom writing the same time as I was and made me think, "Er, maybe I should just be a reader..." You could call it a list of faves, and yes, I know it's S/X heavy - but there's S/A in there as well! These are the writers who made me want to give it a try, and gave me something to fall short of. They're brilliant, and if I've never told them before, they've all inspired me and shown me how fantastic love of the source material and a true gift with words can be. I doff my hat. (If I wore one.)

Thanks, hon, for the birthday wishes! I actually just got my bday party from my parents today, so it was quite timely. xoxo You ROCK!

Welcome! And gorgeous icon. Yay party!!!! You rocketh right back.

*snugs you careful-like* I just logged on and loaded the reading list page, and there you were! I think it's fate.

Now I go to actually read this entry. Yis.

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-03-19 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It *is* fate. It was dumbness, though, that caused me to post this with semagic, thereby defaulting to my Herald icon and screened comments. /dork Fixed it!

It's listy. I like lists. Did you know?

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-03-19 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still poorly, but better. Oooo...chocolate! I did make chocolate chip cookies earlier. I always think of you when I do - didn't you try to make them without flour once? Or something?

I hear you on the love-age. I tred to hit people both flist and fandom, but I know I left off many. Woe.

[identity profile] killerweasel.livejournal.com 2006-03-19 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the birthday thoughts. I had a fantastic day. :D

And I love sharing my caps because people take those and come up with gorgeous icons/wallpapers/etc. I don't have those kind of skills.

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-03-19 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for fun birthday!

Your caps are AWESOME! The ones for that two bodies ep (the title escapes me) were fantastic. My second and mostly-better-half, [livejournal.com profile] elcazvampiros, loves them as well. :)

Hahahahaha! The word "feng shui" makes me laugh - so that was all the better.

Caza managed to work "I've got your back" into several moments of helping me this weekend. Funny man, my Caza.

*loves on you*

*hugs you back* (Snerk)

Oh! And Caza and I have been getting caught up on "Little Britain" all weekend. Tony Head is like, way hot. FYI.

[identity profile] sweptawaybayou.livejournal.com 2006-03-19 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sue! So glad to have you up and around again!

*loves you gently*

And what a wonderful list. I'd like to copy/paste that right into my journal (after I took my *own* name off). It is perfect. Just as you are.

*kisskiss*

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-03-19 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm up! And mostly around! Dude - I've missed so much. *cries*

Thank you again for doing that - you're wonderful. Just let me know if you want me to cover your days any time soon.

My love of making lists is equal only to my fear of leaving someone off. :)

Oh, bless your little cotton socks. Although this week I am feeling very sung actually! So many lovely posts. Good thing I got that long forsaken rec journal updated in Jan, eh? Or I would be out in the cold with no songs at all. :P

(omg I accidentally watched Rain of Fire just now and I think I threw up a little in my mouth)

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-03-19 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee-hee! Nah, I would have had you if only for the notes you drop to the Herald comments with a point in a good direction. Much appreciated, btw.

And, you know, I think you're funny and stuff...

Extraordinary listing! I'm bookmarking this one for further exploration of all the talented folks whose names you've included.

Also: thank you for including me!

Somehow I missed the posting about your back, but glad to hear it's healing. Backache? Not of the good.

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-03-19 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Listing is fun! And you're welcome - your recs are above par! It's a lot of work, and I greatly appreciate that you take the time and effort to do it.

This is my first post since the "Ow! My back!" but [livejournal.com profile] sweptawaybayou popped a mention into the herald when she covered for me. She's cool like that. :)

I'm glad that I've tipped you to some things to put on [livejournal.com profile] su_heraldknows-that stage.

Chiropractor. I was in agonies over Christmas. I will throw my back out every couple of years, and the chiropractor and his magic roller machine? Is great. Plus, my insurance now covers it.

Doesn't make up for the pain of being unsung in fandom, though. Which keeps me humble. :snort:

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-03-19 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Dammit! I *knew* I was going to leave someone off! You were in the "Joy" column. Crap. *adding*

I had to go back and add [livejournal.com profile] julia_here after the fact, too, which is sad considering how much reccing she does.

I'm seriously thinking about making a chiropractor appointment, despite the fact that my dad tried to convice me that they were all hacks. Hmmm...I wonder if it's on my insurance. *note to self to check*

I'm glad that you're recovering from the back pain. OW! I've been sending *get better* vibes your way. :) It sounds like Caza was a marvelous help. Yay for Caza!!

What a lovely list, there's so many great people in fandom. *loves* Thanks for including me! I'm all about being low on the emo, and glad (and amused) to be one of the people who cause sunshine to shoot out of your butt! That would be a great slogan: "I make Sue shoot sunshine out of her butt".

Interestingly (although not surprising considering my S/X love), my list of writers who made me want to write is basically identical to yours!

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Your vibes worked! I'm back up to speed. Mostly. Caza is the greatest.

There are so many great people - I barely scratched surface! You do bring the sunshine - I love your Buffyverse posts and just your you-ness. I could make you up some cards with that...

I know I've left some writers off. Those are the S/X writers who first introduced me to fic, and then the S/A ones that really got me into the pairing. They're pretty nifty, huh?

[identity profile] brandil.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
::loves on you::

So sorry you threw your back out. Are you taking it easy?

I'm much, much better. I didn't move from the couch most of the weekend (and I had a 4 day weekend! Woe!) but I'm easing back. I'm gonna answer the last of these comments and then head in. Try to catch up again in the morning. More skip=massive.

[identity profile] ely-jan.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
...and high on the sunshine shooting out of my butt.

Hi sweetie! Poor Sue, I wondered how your back was doing. Ron has a bad back but nothing like this. His is more of the low-level-pain variety, not the code-red-can't-move-for-days like yours!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, it's been a good birthday overall with some weirdness here and there. The boys were sick but are better now. Ron brought me yummy Thai food and cake!

Thanks also for the mention as a "faithful reader!"

And which makes being on the Sue Joy list so much sweeter! Sing it with me now:

Ouch with the back! I feel your pain! I have stretches, should you need them. Good, chairopractor-approved stretches *g* The Back Pain has been my life for the last 5 years. Take care of yours! The sooner you nip it in the bud, the less chance it will become chronic.

Anywho, on to ME! Me being FUNNY! Hooray! *smooches* Your list rocks, btw. I need to check some of the people out...

I have a funny story, actually, which is totally and completely off topic *g* I went out for sushi today with some friends, mostly guys, and we got on the topic of sex ed, because Darryl is doing a teching practicum and next month he has to teach it. So I said, just bring in fruit. A banana with a condom and half a cantelope. Which I thought was funny. ONE person laughed. The rest were shocked, SHOCKED that I would mention that ANYTHING looked like a V-word. So, bananas are okay, but half a cantelope is dirty? Boo to that. Seriously, these are guys that will talk about dental damns in a crowded, child-filled restauant, but mention a fruit that resembles a coochie and suddenly you've gone too far. AND THEN Darrly proceeds to say that he'll just whip out his penis and say, "hey kids, this is what it looks like." And then the principle will cal him into the office and say, "you are so fired." And how. Funny, but still, wtf.

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ooo! Streches! Yes! Send diagrams! I need something. I did NOT enjoy this weekened.

You are funny! Like, old school Sue journal funny.

Hahahahaha! It totally *is* cantaloupe! So, bananas are okay, but half a cantelope is dirty? Hee! Reminds me of the HBO Real Sex I saw once where an instructor was demonstrating cunnilingus using...mango slices, I think.

You win best story of the day.
