I am so frustrated with Sherlock fic!

Maybe it's all the years of reading HP fic, but I just find the quality of Sherlock fic lacking. There's so much unnecessary quoting of canon dialogue (only Buffy comes to mind as a close second) and there are so many fics rated E that have a single sex scene, and it's a hand-waved hand-job.

And I don't want to be ageist, truly I don't, because Ladycat and Viciouswishes wrote amazing prose, insight, introspection and smut when they were barely out of their teens, but the Tumblr-esque tee-heeing over "We're only 14! And we're in love with 30-40 year old men!" drives me batshit. As if that's a new thing for teens, as if James Marsters and Tony Head and Robert Downey Jr and Patrick Stewart and George Clooney and Colin Firth didn't exists for those of us young in the 80s/90s/2000s?

Unfortunately, that attitude bleeds into the fic. Tired of reading UST filled fic that culminated in a off-page blow job, I Googled "Hottest Sherlock fic" and the VERY first Tumblr rec post I found rec'd a threesome fic, but then decried the true possibility that men that age (mid-to-late 30s) would have sex that much (about once a day). ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Yeah, I know for a lot of people who haven't hit 35+, the idea that people their parents' ages (gasp!) still have frequent, often kinky, desperate, sweaty, sometimes in groups, sometimes ill-considered sex can be a shocker.

But please, fan fiction writers of Sherlock fandom, please stop and look at Benedict Cumberbatch in 2015. He was 38 years old, newly married for the first time, and impregnated his (then) 36 year old wife twice in 18 months. And it's not even healthy, hard-bodied adults like Benedict in "Dr. Strange" who can still burn up the sheets over 35. A LOT of people discover their kinky side in their 30s and 40s.

Jay Z is 47 -- my age -- and in the past year has weathered the fallout of his multiple infidelities after Beyoncé released "Lemonade," released and promoted a new album, and just had a set of twins with a woman who has one of the most perfect bodies ever created. FORTY. SEVEN.

And John Watson has a 24-hour refractory period at 39? The hell.

In conclusion: Please rec me some smut.

1) I started watching Teen Wolf. I'm not really sure why. Actually, I think it was because Andrea, Brandi and CJ were and I wanted to have something to talk to them about, haha.

2) It doesn't suck, as I assumed it would. I mean, I'd like characterization and metaphor, but I'll settle for lack of (even casual) homophobia, added shirtlessness and "WTF?!" (in a good way) reactions to every episode.

3) CJ wants me to write fic for this show. This is most likely NOT going to happen. One, because I need something to either parody or meta in order to write, and this show already does one and doesn't really lend to the other. Two, I could never write Derek/Stiles for the same reason I rarely wrote Angel: I can't write characters who aren't composed entirely of dialogue. If I wrote fic for this show, it would probably be Scott/Jackson/Allison, haha!

4) I loved watching BtVS (duh) because, while it was a high school show created when I was in my late 20s, David and James and Charisma were all older than I, and Nicky and Aly are close to my age. The mom on Teen Wolf is two years younger than I am. Ouch.

5) I'm up to the 4th episode of Season 2 (yes, I paid for Hulu Plus to watch Season 2) and wow, did I not see some of this stuff coming.

6) Tigh!

7) Jonah starts ballet next Wednesday (he'll have it once a week for an hour while he's four). He's going to the school that Ballet Oklahoma draws from, so here's hoping he had talent and endurance. I get to go buy wee black tights and dance shoes today! (He chose ballet over gymnastics. Whatever -- exercise is exercise. And ballet is actually $5 cheaper a month, at least while he's four.)

8) I really want to talk Teen Wolf with someone who wants to talk about Teen Wolf. Call me. Or email me at crazydiamondsue@gmail.com if you've lost my number. I don't know why I want to talk about it. I just do. And Vinnie gives me an indulgent "FML" when I try to talk about it; one, because she has no interest and two because I'm interrupting her mainlining of Big Bang Theory.

My friend Angie (whose baby I keep during the week) brought me a slice of chocolate mousse cake from La Baguette, Oklahoma City's best only French bakery. I can't eat it until Jonah takes his afternoon nap (which varies from 2:00ish to 4:00ish) because I don't let him eat very many sweets, I don't let him eat sweets unless I make them and I don't let him eat chocolate at all yet -- and if he sees me eating, he will want. So it is sitting in the fridge in all of its glorious, rich, fluffy chocolateyness and I'm living on the Lean Cuisine pizza I had for lunch. Siiiigh.

To kill time while I wait for Jonah to stop turning circles in the living room while saying, "Whoa! Ut-woah!" should I:

1) Compose a post listing all the Buffyverse ships that I saw in canon or found in fandom and tell you while I love or dislike (but mostly love) them?

2) Compose a post talking about why I'm not a big romance fan and I've never once felt the need to yell "Fix it!" to a fic with an angsty or realistic (for the Buffyverse) ending?

3) Finish and post my stunning Buffy/Angel crack-AU roller skating fic in time for the Olympic closing ceremonies?

4) Take a break from the Buffyverse and tell YOU why you're awesome?

  • I wrote fic. For the first time since 2007. It may not be the best of fic, but I wrote fic.

  • I am supposed to be over at the theatre at the college Caza works for, watching a production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." It was a great production, too, with aerobatics and flywork. Instead, I am in Caza's office (on his kick-ass, high speed computer) trying to keep Jonah out of the accouterments of a college dean. I know, I know, you shouldn't try to take a baby to the theatre, but I figured any child of my and Caza's loins was born Bard ready. I was wrong.

  • REC: Fans of rare pairings: [livejournal.com profile] lunabee34 wrote Xander/Ben (you know, Ben-is-Glory Ben) and it's AWESOME. I would have wigged massively trying to write that pairing, but she wrote something amazing and heartfelt (as well as including one of the most subtle inclusions of Oxnard I've ever read.) Check it out: The Soft Darkness, The Dreamless Sleep. A lot of great writers signed up for this round of the [livejournal.com profile] maleslashminis, so Xander slash fans, check those out.

  • I am stoned on Aleve D multi-symptom cold medicine and lack of sleep. Thunder (lightning! the way you love me is frightening!) woke me at 4:30 this morning, the baby woke me again at 6:00. I am functioning very well, all things considered.

  • I wrote this big whinge earlier this morning about how my fan fiction is nothing but dialogue on top of dialogue and that nothing ever happens (no rocks fall, no one dies) and then deleted it. Appears even I have some shame.

  • I had one southwest eggroll for lunch. I'm starving.

  • My brother is coming to stay the night for the first since August. He's taking us out for dinner somewhere "fancy" (Melting Pot! I vote Melting Pot!) and buying belated Christmas. Did I mention that my brother is single, six feet tall, a huge Supernatural fan, financially solvent and almost as funny as me? Line forms to the left.

  • This cold medicine is making the inside of my nose smell like wet leaves.

  • I wrote fic!
